Windows are essential to your home’s beauty and comfort; they give you a wonderful view of the outdoors, protect the inside of your home from the elements and they let in sunlight to brighten up your indoor space. Because they are so vital to a home, they receive a lot of action. It’s a good idea to keep your windows clean so that they keep functioning as they should.
Window glass can get dirty pretty easily, particularly with little hands or pets in the home, but luckily glass cleaning is pretty simple. Many Pella Windows and Doors windows have features that make it easier to clean the exterior of your windows from indoors, too. Looking for easy to manage, new window cleaning process? Here’s what Pella Windows and Doors swears on:
- You can start by brushing off your window sill with a small broom or brush. The dirt and dust that gathers on the sill and ledges will remain there for a long time otherwise, and brushing will also prevent smearing on the glass later on. Make sure not to use the same cleaning duster that you will eventually use to clean the glass!
- Run your vacuum’s dusting brush attachment on the side of your window screen that faces inside. You can also use this vacuum piece to pick up any leftover dirt and dust along your sills.
- Use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution, or an ammonia-free glass cleaner like Windex® or Sparkle® to clean your window’s glass. You can make your own vinegar-based solution by mixing one-part white vinegar to 10 parts water. Generously apply the cleaner to a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel and wipe down your glass from several different directions for the best clean.
- Give your windows time to air dry and then rinse your glass with clean water if any streaks remain.
Here are some more tips, too! We recommend cleaning your windows on a cloudy day because the sun will dry the cleaning solution too quickly and leave streaks on your glass. Also, our Pella Windows and Doors professionals prefer microfiber cloths since they are the least likely to leave tiny particles behind.
Take care of your attractive view, protection barrier and light source by keeping your windows clean all year long.
